Paul Masvidal - (vocals, guitar, guitar synth)
Paul Masvidal lives in Los Angeles, CA where he and Sean Reinert are busy
with Aeon
Spoke. When not writing, practicing or recording music, he works as a music
therapist and volunteer accompanying and comforting the dying. He's also a long-time
practitioner of Yoga and meditation. Aeon Spoke's new 'self-titled' record will be
released in early 2007. The band plans on touring/promoting the release throughout
the year. Sean Reinert - (acoustic/electronic drums, keyboards)
Sean Reinert currently lives in Los Angeles, CA where he practices, studies
music and enjoy's riding his bike near the ocean. He has also been composing quite
often with Paul on various soundtrack projects for television, movies and commercials
as well as engineering independent releases and doing some session work. It should be
noted that, through it all, Paul and Sean's primary focus is
Aeon Spoke.
Jason Gobel - (guitar, guitar synth)
Jason Gobel is now living in Portland, Oregon with his wife Cynthia and
two children. Jason's son, Jason Jr., is just learning how to play the guitar and recently got his new
classical guitar from his dad. He has worked closely with Sean Malone in the past on a
number of projects including Gordian Knot's new release Emergent. He is
currently not involved in any new projects but has been enjoying spending his time
writing and recording his own material in his home studio. According to Jason, some of
his best memories are from the time he spent in Cynic where he experienced a
musical and creative freedom which has been difficult to match since. Sean Malone - (bass, chapman stick)
Currently Sean Malone lives in Florida where he teaches Music Theory at
Florida State University. He continues to do session work with many different artists as
well as spend a lot of time on his solo project
Gordian Knot. GK has already released two albums: (self-titled) in 2000
and most recently, Emergent early in 2003 which features appearances from all
of the other three Cynic members from Focus. Tony Teegarden - (vocals, keyboards)
Tony Teegarden is currently still living in Tampa, Florida where he owns
his own business and is doing quite well. Tony is an
entreprenuer in a company called Prepaid Legal Services Inc. and says that "it's a
great feeling to be in control of my own destiny and helping mentor and guide others
toward the same goal of finacial independence." He is still very active as far as music
goes and about a year and a half ago recorded a song for a movie sound track (he
recorded guitar, keyboards and did actual singing and death vocals). He currently
says he is "just really enjoying life right now". Some bands/music that Tony has been
listening to include Frank Gambali and Scott Henderson. As well, he has not denied his
metal roots and listens to bands such as Mudvayne, Killswitch Engage, Pulse Ultra and
a very technical death metal band out of Florida called Capharnaum who are "much in the
vein of the Cynic '90 demo but crazier!" They aren't signed yet but expect they will be soon.
Most recently, Tony has hooked up with a band called Adrift
whose lineup includes the likes of Jack Owen of Cannibal Corpse and a long time friend
Kevin Astl. Tony contributed a song called Broken Mirror to the group and it can
be heard at Adrifts' website at the above link.
Tony Choy - (bass)
Tony has been busy with the Atheist reunion performing on festival
dates throughout Europe and Australia. Some of his more recent past projects include
a Latin musical group named Area 305, who are based in Miami, Florida. Area
305 released a
self-titled album on BMG Latin described as "combining hot
Latin beats, virtuoso musicianship and a wall of brilliant vocal harmonies..." The group
has had much success with Latin audiences, in particular, across South America and the
Caribbean so Tony has certainly been putting in his "road time" as of late. Chris Kringel - (bass)
One thing is certain when it comes to Chris Kringel,
he has not been idle since his days in Cynic. Chris currently lives in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin where he plays bass for a long standing and well known local blues band
called Group Therapy and has also been helping out in many other acts around
town including local Jazz favorite Barbara Stephani (see LINKS page for all of
the bands). Chris is an alumnus of The Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA and the
author of the Play Bass Today! - Level One and Level Two instructional books. He has
appeared on recordings by artists such as Inda Eaton, Jack Grassel,
Jeff Schroedl, and Kirk Tatnall and has authored many Hal Leonard
instructional books/CDs. He is endorsed by top bass manufacturers Warwick and
Stuart Spector Design and he currently teaches bass, performs live and in the
studio for several different artists in the Milwaukee area and is working on his first
solo album. As well, Chris has been an active musician in Paul and Sean's project
Aeon Spoke
having played on their last UK promotional tour and recorded bass to one of the tracks
on their upcoming record. Aruna Abrams - (vocals, keyboards)
Aruna Abrams of Portal notoriety is also living close to Paul and Sean in L.A. where she is promoting / touring her debut album. If you want to hear some of Aruna's great, inspirational solo material, check out her website, ArunaMusic.com.
Steve Gruden - (additional vocals)
Steve Gruden was an extraordinary singer, guitarist, and songwriter
from the Tampa Bay area of Florida. He was with Atlantic Recording artists Secret
Service for years as their lead singer/guitarist. In 1992, the band name was
changed to The Trial where, shortly after that, Warner Brothers became very
interested and deals were being discussed by other major labels as well. During the
reformation of the band, Steve worked at Morrisound Recording Studios and was also a
studio cat who sang on many albums throughout the years which is how he came to sing
on the Cynic album. Sadly however, in 1994, Steve Gruden passed on leaving behind a
legacy that survives today through both his family and his music. Steve, as described by
his wife Sheri was "a humble, caring man that forever touched the lives of everyone he
met..." and he will be sorely missed. Sheri has erected a website in his name at
www.stevegruden.com where you can learn more about the man and listen to
song samples that showcase his amazing talent and voice...I urge you all to visit.
Mark Van Erp - (bass)
Since his time with Cynic, Mark has also been involved with both Monstrosity and Solstice. Dana Cosley - (vocals, keyboards)
No information available. Jack Kelly - (vocals)
No information available. Sonia Lynn Otey - (additional vocals)
Sonia performed the operatic vocals heard on Cynic's Focus,
Gordian Knot's emergent, and Loudblast's Sublime Dementia. |
